The decision to perform a knee replacement is determined by a number of factors. Those include medical history, a physical examination and an X-ray. While an X-ray can reveal the amount of deformity or damage to a knee, more tests may be ordered before a decision about knee replacement is made. A blood test or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) can reveal more about the condition of the bone and tissue of the knee.
