All ranges of passive shoulder motion are returned immediately in most cases while others still require a little time for complete restoration. Almost every OAT patient will experience immediate near-full restoration of abduction (side raising) and greatly increased internal rotation. However, external rotation–sometimes referred to as the “I solemnly swear” position, will often purposely not be completely restored as this particular position poses the greatest risk of injury.
